Free web site hosting is available for most websites. Some sites such as adult sites may not be accepted and you should check the hosts terms of service before you upload any site, otherwise they may delete your site from the server. A free hosting service is a good alternative if you are just starting a website. Once your site gets more traffic you can upgrade to paid web hosting plan to suit your needs.
Free web hosting usually does not have the same features as a paid hosting plan. Storage is limited and bandwidth speed that can mean your page may load slower due to more websites on the same server. Other features such as web stats and server extensions may not be included.
Currently I have a some of my websites hosted for free with 000webhost.com . This is the first time I have used a free hosting site. The change was out of necessity, hosting multiple domains on a cheap plan was saving money and having no problems with the web host was good news, until I got an email from internetseer.com explaining my sites are offline. I had to act fast, getting no traffic sucks !
I typed in my domain name, ACCOUNT SUSPENDED, emailed the hosting company and they said I had not paid the renewal, I replied if you had of sent me a renewal I would of paid. They replied about 2 days later saying it was their billing departments fault, and I needed to contact another web hosting company to sort out the problem as they were only resellers and didn't seem to care about my site.
By this time I had set up a free hosting account and uploaded my sites. If free hosting is right for your site then use it, when you start getting more traffic or need an fast server then you can upgrade to a paid hosting plan.
Free hosting sites can also be used to redirect a URl. Some sites only offer homepage hosting.
Some disadvantages of free hosting is that you have to constantly regularly update your website, or it will get suspended. Another disadvantage is that tracking codes are installed on your html pages, this is for the web hosts analytical data, but on a robots txt page it causes the page to time out and most search engine robots have problems accessing the page. No stats also mean you will have to track your own webpages , they do have a control panel feature, you have to insert the code into your page.
Free web hosting is excellent for those webmasters just getting started. For free it is everything you need, the uptime is okay, about 95 %.
